The case regarding the man who was shot at the busy intersection of Mandela Drive and Walter Sisulu Street in Middelburg remains ongoing.

His condition, after the man was shot in the head above his left eye in broad daylight, currently remains unknown.

The suspected hijacking took place on August 23, just before 14:00.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, responding officers located a white Toyota Fortuner, bearing Limpopo registration plates, parked on the roadside.

An attempted murder case has been opened at the Middelburg Police Station.

Ndubane said paramedics attended to the driver inside the car, who was still breathing, and he was rushed to the hospital.

“All role players attended the scene, and the suspect remains unknown at this stage,” said Ndubane.

Bullet pierces windscreen

Police confirmed that a single bullet was fired directly through the vehicle’s windscreen.

Despite the critical nature of his injuries, the driver was stabilised at the scene.
Police appeal for information

Today (August 28), Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that police are still investigating a case of attempted murder and investigations are underway.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the shooting or observed suspicious activity near the intersection to assist with the investigation.
