Alleged human traffickers and illegal immigrants remanded in custody

15 adult and two minor illegal immigrants alongside their alleged traffickers were remanded in custody by the Middelburg Courts.

Ndaedzo Philemon Tshisevhe (32) – driver ,and Innocent Ramarumo (32) – crew, both South African citizens together with 17 Ethopians were remanded in custody by the Middelburg Magistrates Court on Friday, 8 March.

The accused were intercepted on 28 February, travelling along the N11 from Groblersdal towards Middelburg.

During their bail application, Tshisevhe and Ramarumo were remanded in custody after the address in Musina they gave the court could not be verified.

They further indicated that they are staying in Fholovhodwe. Their case was postponed to 25 March for further verification of addresses.

The matter of the illegal immigrants were divided into two court proceedings for age determination, where it was established that two were minors and fifteen adults.

The minors appeared in the Children’s Court with Social Services taking over the case. The case was remanded to 15 March and the minors were taken to Belfast Child Care Centre.

The 15 other illegal immigrants were transferred from Preliminary Inquiry to the Criminal Court and their matter was remanded to 25 March for legal representation.

The investigation continues.
