Middelburg police close investigation into stolen laptop

The laptop was reported missing after the office was unattended.

Middelburg police have closed an investigation into the theft of a work laptop from a social worker’s office after failing to identify any suspects.

The complainant, social worker Nkosinyiphile Naphanya, reported that his black Dell laptop, valued at R8 000, was stolen on August 7.

Naphanya left his Walter Sisulu Street office unlocked at 11:56 to conduct a home visit. Upon returning at 13:14, he discovered the laptop was missing from his desk.

According to Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Mdluli, a receptionist noted that a client had entered the office during Naphanya’s absence.

However, when contacted, the individual denied any knowledge of the incident.

Mdluli said that CCTV cameras are present on the premises, but the police have been unable to trace the perpetrator.

“The case is currently closed as undetected. The complainant was informed that if there is any information or any leads, the case will be reopened,” Mdluli said.

The suspect remains unknown, and no further leads are actively being pursued at this stage.
