Alleged rape victim’s mother faints in court

A 42-year-old woman was accused of raping a 12-year-old boy during a visit to his grandmother's house.

Angry Newtown community members filled the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court gallery on Wednesday morning as a 42-year-old woman accused of raping a 12-year-old boy, made her first court appearance.

The accused was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) by the Mhluzi Police and charged with rape.

The names of both the victim and the woman can not be released due to the child being a minor.

As the accused made her way to the dock, the mother of the victim fainted.

According to community members, the young boy was visiting his grandmother for the weekend when he was allegedly raped by his grandmother’s friend.

The boy reportedly complained about experiencing pain in his groin and told his grandmother, but she reportedly didn’t assist the child.
He later went to his mother’s house and told her about the same pain and an incident that happened at his grandmother’s house.

The mother went to the Mhluzi Police Station, and she opened a rape case. The police then went and arrested the accused woman.

The matter was postponed to April 16 for a formal bail application.
