Hit and run suspect flees twice

A brave taxi driver followed the Isuzu bakkie that rammed an ER24 ambulance last Saturday at about 20:00.

The ambulance, carrying two paramedics, was on its way to pick up a patient when it collided with the bakkie on the corner of Walter Sisulu and SADC Street.

The Isuzu driver fled the scene shortly after the incident, and a taxi driver, who witnessed the accident, followed the bakkie until it came to a stop at the corner of Wes and Bhimy Damane Street due to the bakkie’s broken radiator.

The driver abandoned the bakkie and fled on foot.

• Investigators found the car registration for the vehicle was fake, and a driver’s licence found inside the vehicle belonged to a Mozambican national.

The driver of the bakkie is still at large, and the police investigations continue.

One paramedic was injured during the accident.
