Nasaret family fears gang after assault of dad, his brother

A family from Nazareth fears for their lives after the man of the house was badly assaulted on April 22 in front of Rinahof apartments.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of his attackers, was treated in hospital for three days after the assault.

The victim’s wife says he was tackled and brutally assaulted by nine men at around 22:00 that evening after he confronted one of the men because of an earlier fight, during which the victim’s brother was also assaulted.

Due to the serious nature of the victim’s injuries, the police are now investigating a case of assault with intent to injure.
However, the victim’s wife says the police refuse to investigate his brother’s assault.

Three of the men believed to be responsible for the assault were questioned by the police but simply let go.

According to the woman, she was also threatened by those involved in the meantime and says she also moved her child to another class out of fear, after the assault of the father at school also started to make headlines.

Some of the men apparently have close ties to a notorious security company.

The injuries he sustained to his upper body.

According to the victim’s wife, the security company was also apparently ‘wormed’ by the police, and the woman says they are worried that nothing will come of the case.

The victim was earlier on the day in question in Hendrina, where his brother called him with the news that he had been assaulted.
He later arrived in town, after which he spotted one of the alleged attackers near Rinahof.

He went to confront the suspect, after which eight other men suddenly overpowered him and began assaulting him.
He suffered serious head, neck and back injuries.

The woman says that he also suffered kidney damage from the incessant punches and kicks.

The family, who live in Nazareth, say the suspects are known to them.
They now fear that the group will come and cause trouble at their home.

According to the police, the investigation is ongoing.

• Photographs of the alleged attackers were provided to the newspaper, but cannot be used until the accused have been formally charged.
Many of the alleged attackers are foreigners.
