Shootout between police and hijackers results in recovery of silver Hilux
Another Toyota Hilux was reported as stolen in an armed robbery in Extension 5 on Tuesday night, with the vehicle having been found on the roadside of the N12 this morning after a shootout between the robbers and the SAPS.

The hijacking was reported on the Traffic Alert group on Tuesday evening at around 19:15 by Traffic Officer Mfundo Dliwayo after the victim approached him during his patrol.
According to Evelyn Mayisela, she and her husband, Bongani Sibiya, were on their way to drop off her sister’s two-year-old daughter, with their own three children in the car, when the vehicle was suddenly surrounded by four armed men.
Her sister’s child was seated in her lap, and the robbers pointed the weapon directly at the little girl.
The family was forced out of the vehicle and the suspects fled with the Hilux, their purses, wallets and cellphones, leaving the family stranded at her sister’s home.
The police and Cartrack were dispatched, and an attempt was made to block off the entrances and exits to Mhluzi.
The silver double-cab Toyota Hilux has been in their possession for two weeks.
• The incident follows a spate of hijackings reported during the end of April in Mhluzi and particularly in Tokologo.
On May 3, the Middelburg Observer published an article about the hijacking of senior firefighter Daki Mabena, who was accosted by four armed men at his home in Extension 23.
The armed men held his young son at gunpoint before taking Mr Mabena hostage and fleeing with him and his vehicle. He was forced to hand over the cash he had withdrawn previously that evening before later being let go.
The hijacking of a Legend Logistics and SG Coal vehicle was also reported the same week, followed by the attempted hijacking of a Columbus Stainless employee.
