WATCH: Wheel thieves at work in Dennesig caught on camera

The syndicate responsible for numerous wheel thefts in Middelburg struck again earlier this morning, this time being caught on CCTV.

According to Mr Ruhan Potgieter, a group of suspects descended on his home in Hertzog Street, Dennesig, at roughly 02:00 this morning, leaving an estimated R30 000 damage in their wake.

Mr Potgieter believes there were three suspects as well as a getaway vehicle involved in the theft of his work vehicle’s wheels, “We can see two suspects in the yard, and I believe there was another suspect outside our yard. I am also convinced that a vehicle was waiting for them.”

The thieves were scared off by Ruhan Potgieter and left the fourth wheel behind.

Mr Potgieter was woken up by his barking dog at 03:10 and startled the thieves, who managed to make off with three wheels, leaving the fourth behind, “They were brand new tyres with less than 8 000km on them.”

According to the CCTV footage, the two suspects can be seen removing the paving bricks from the carport to stack the vehicle on top of them.

“Titon Security responded to our alarm within four minutes, but the thieves had managed to get away with three of the wheels.”
