Extension 8 Clinic nurse accused of negligence

Njabulo Madonsela lost her baby after visiting the Extension 8 Clinic in May, where she was “helped” by what she believes to be a “negligent” nurse.

She is still very traumatised after finding out she lost her baby just a few hours after discovering the pregnancy, and says that maybe, if the nurse had paid careful attention during her consultation, she would not have miscarried.

According to Njabulo, she visited the clinic in Mhluzi at around 14:30 on May 14.

When she entered the consultation room, the nurse was apparently busy on her phone scrolling through TikTok.

She explained her symptoms to the nurse, and a urine sample was taken for testing, “The nurse continued scrolling through TikTok even during the consultation, and she showed an expression of disgust when she took my urine,” said Njabulo.

She was then told that she was pregnant.

Njabulo then proceeded to explain to the nurse that she had cramps and was bleeding.

The nurse gave her paracetemol, and her blood concerns were also not recorded in her file.

When she got home, she expressed her concern to her sister, who advised her to go to the hospital.

She went to the hospital around midnight and unfortunately found out that she had miscarried.

The Middelburg Observer spoke to Mr Christopher Nobela, the communications officer for the Mpumalanga Department of Health, and he took Njabulo’s contact details to further investigate the matter.

The health department visited her, and an official complaint was filed.

Njabulo does want to institute legal action against the clinic, and asks anyone in the legal fraternity who can assist her, to please reach out.

• The Observer does have the name of the nurse involved in the matter, but because there’s no formal charges yet, her identity is witheld.

The journalist tried to contact the clinic for comment, but the phone rang unanswered.
