Three suspects in David Masombuka murder case appear in court

Three of the five suspects arrested for the alleged hijacking and murder of David Masombuka have appeared in court earlier today.

According to a media statement issued by the Provincial SAPS, Guillie Ugamu Ngulela (19), Paulus Nyambiri (36), and Orlando Napasa (31) appeared at the Emalahleni Magistrates’ Court where their case was postponed until 11 October for further investigation.

The three suspects were remanded in custody while the remaining two suspects are expected to appear tomorrow.

As previously reported by the Middelburg Observer, the five suspects are Mozambican nationals and investigators are working in partnership with officials from the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the status of the suspects, and charges in relation to contravention of the Immigration Act could be added.

David Masombuka, Nkangala District Municipality’s Chief Communications Manager, was killed in a hijacking that occurred on Sunday in eMalahleni where he was to attend a municipal IDP meeting in Klarinet.

Masombuka’s family became suspicious after he never reached his destination, and they noticed questionable transactions on his bank account, leading to them alerting the authorities.
