Infant and three others killed in N4 crash

A deadly crash happened on the N4 near the Hendrina off-ramp, claiming four lives, including that of an infant.

According to Moeti Mmusi of the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the crash occurred in the early hours of Monday.

The crash involved a light delivery vehicle (LDV) bakkie and a sedan.

It is alleged that the LDV bakkie collided with the sedan.

The bakkie overturned multiple times.

The vehicles were reportedly travelling in the same direction when the accident happened.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown however investigations are underway.

Three people from the LDV sadly passed away.

One occupant in the sedan also passed away following the collision.

Mmusi said that two people were critically injured and transported to the hospital.

The driver of the sedan also sustained serious injuries.

They were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Traffic Alert also warned motorists on their whatsapp group about the accident.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Jackie Macie, called on motorists to be cautious on the roads, “Motorists must be on high alert at all times when they are on the road. When visibility is restricted, drivers must reduce speed. Those who are driving long distances should rest sufficiently along the way to avoid crashes brought on by fatigue,” Macie said.
