Motorists are urged to find alternative routes, as Meyer Street, the Protea intersection, and both directions of Brug Street remain closed.
The road was closed last night due to a sinkhole in the middle of the busy road near the Meyer’s Bridge.
At around 13:00, Middelburg Observer journalists saw two Gauteng-registered vehicles ignoring the barricades and driving on the dangerous closed road.

Workers from the municipality are currently repairing the damaged road.
Dr Beyers Naude Street, Lilian Ngoyi Street, and Cowen Ntuli Street are experiencing high levels of traffic, and motorists are advised to be patient and exercise caution during the upcoming peak hour traffic.
This morning, Cowen Ntuli Street was filled with trucks that usually drive through Middelburg.
Residents are concerned about the road damage the trucks will cause to the already damaged roads.
