WATCH: Residents tempt death by ignoring flood warnings

Woman struggles through flooded river over low-water bridge.

Two days, four drownings!

And, people still tempt death with ignorance.

Despite warnings from Councillor Hennie Niemann that people should stay away from water if they are not good swimmers, some residents are still careless.

A woman was spotted this afternoon with her dress pulled up, struggling against a strong current to get over the Asalia Street low-water bridge.

Despite four drownings in Middelburg between Sunday and Monday, people are still tempting fate. This shocking video captured a woman slowly making her way across the flooded low-water bridge behind Kees Taljaard Stadium, where numerous people have drowned before after being swept away with the currents. On Sunday three women drowned in the Klein Olifants River, while a 20-year-old teenager drowned in Athlone Dam yesterday.

She got stuck a few times in distress as the Klein Olifants River raged around her, but was clearly determined not to use a safer detour.

Motorists sat in fear as the woman reached safety after what felt like an eternity.

If she had tripped and fallen, the drowning toll for the week would have been five.
