Kickstart to athletics at Koedoekoppe

The local athletics season kicked off with an energetic start last Saturday (January 24), when young athletes gathered for the Koedoekop Athletics Meeting at Laerskool Middelburg, home of the Koedoekoppe.

With a full programme of track and field events, the meeting delivered competitive racing, strong field performances and plenty of early-season promise. From fast-paced sprint events to powerful throws and disciplined endurance races, athletes showed determination and commitment as they launched their 2026 athletics campaigns.

The Koedoekop Athletics Meeting served as an early benchmark for schools and athletes alike, offering a chance to test form, refine technique and gain valuable competition experience. Several close finishes kept spectators engaged throughout the day, underlining the depth of talent coming through local school sport.

The event ran smoothly thanks to the efforts of organisers, officials, and volunteers, who ensured a professional and well-managed meeting. Coaches were actively involved throughout the programme, guiding athletes and offering support, while parents and supporters lined the track to cheer on competitors.

Beyond results and times, the day highlighted the sense of camaraderie that continues to define school athletics in Middelburg.
As the season progresses, the performances seen suggest an exciting few months ahead for local athletics.
