Cement spill causes dangerous conditions on Kranspoort Pass

A truck carrying cement lost part of its load near the second arrester bed on the Kranspoort Pass this afternoon, 31 January, causing poor visibility and dangerous driving conditions on the Loskop Road.

Motorists travelling through Kranspoort Pass on the Loskop Road are urged to exercise extreme caution after a truck carrying cement lost part of its load in the pass.

The spill occurred near the second arrester bed in the direction of Kranspoort, leaving the road covered in cement dust and significantly reducing visibility. A second stationary truck in the same direction is reportedly adding to the risk in the narrow, winding section of the pass.

Drivers say the dust-covered road surface makes visibility particularly poor when travelling downhill. Motorists are advised to slow down, use headlights, and keep a safe following distance, or avoid the area where possible.

Kranspoort Pass remains a high-risk route, especially under reduced visibility conditions.
