Towing service says taxi driver remained on scene after Rand Street crash

A towing company has clarified that the taxi driver involved in this morning’s Rand Street crash did not flee, but remained on the scene until his vehicle was removed.

Following a report published earlier today regarding a taxi that crashed through a palisade fence in Rand Street, Middelburg, additional information has been provided about the driver’s presence at the scene.

The initial report was based on information and a photograph submitted by a member of the public who indicated that the driver was no longer at the scene after the taxi ploughed into the fence shortly after 06:00.

Pit Stop Towing Service has since clarified that the driver was, in fact, present.

“He stayed on the scene until we towed his vehicle. He called his manager, and he also came to the scene,” a representative from the towing service confirmed.

According to the company, the driver remained there throughout the recovery process before the vehicle was removed.
