Large water-filled hole on Meyer Street causes traffic delays

A burst stormwater pipe has left a section of Meyer Street submerged, disrupting traffic and prompting urgent municipal action. Residents and motorists are urged to exercise caution until repairs are completed.

Motorists on Meyer Street are facing delays after a large water-filled hole appeared following the collapse of a stormwater pipe.

The incident, initially feared to be a sinkhole, was confirmed by the municipality’s water department as the result of a stormwater pipe which collapsed that damaged the road surface.

Cllr San Mari Wait acted swiftly after the problem was reported and also notified the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to ensure that the necessary repairs could be carried out.

Lerato Kgomo, Head of Communications at the Steve Tshwete Municipality, said earlier today that the water department team would start repairs as soon as possible. However, shortly after the interview, rain began falling, and it is unclear whether the team was able to begin work before the storm.
