Repairs are ongoing on Meyer Street

Work has been delayed while crew remove a large tree above the damaged pipe before repairs can proceed.

Repair work on Meyer Street is continuing after a collapsed stormwater pipe caused a large water-filled hole, which disrupted traffic.

The hole, which initially raised concerns about a possible sinkhole, was later confirmed to have been caused by the collapse of a stormwater pipe that damaged the road surface and left a section of Meyer Street, near the Joubert Street turn-off, submerged.

Municipal team is on site and have already begun work, but the repairs have not yet been completed.

According to a municipal worker, the repairs have been delayed by a large tree above the stormwater pipe.
They are currently working on removing the tree so they can start fixing the burst pipe.

The damaged section of the road remains under repair, and motorists are advised to be cautious when travelling on Meyer Street.
