Black smoke cloud covers Middelburg Industrial

A large cloud of black smoke was seen rising near the railway line close to the SPCA in Middelburg afternoon.

Black smoke can be seen near the Middelburg SPCA.

A large cloud of black smoke was seen rising near the SPCA in Middelburg’s industrial area this afternoon, March 15.

According to initial information received, the smoke is coming from an area near the old railway line.

It is uncertain what caused the fire. Initial reports suggest that cables or other materials may have been set alight.

Video footage from the scene show thick black smoke and visible flames in the field.

People can be seen near the burning fire but it isn’t clear what they were burning or why. According to local residents, the area is know for thick black smoke from fires, burning cables and tires for apparent, warmth and heat in rainy weather.

The incident has been reported to emergency dispatch.

At the time the photos were taken, the fire department had not yet arrived and the fire was still burning.

The smoke was visible from several parts of the town.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
