Mhluzi roadshow highlights support for boys and men

A community walk from Mhluzi Mall to OR Tambo Park highlighted the work of Lean On Me Community Empowerment, an organisation dedicated to building stronger families by empowering boys and men.

Lean On Me Community Empowerment, a non-profit organisation, hosted a community roadshow in Mhluzi last Friday to raise awareness about its work that empowers boys and men in the Steve Tshwete community.

The non-profit organisation was founded in 2018 by Mrs Linah Mnisi, who established the organisation after identifying a gap in the community programmes that specifically focus on supporting and empowering the boys.
Driven by a vision to strengthen families and communities, she founded the organisation to provide guidance, support and empowerment for boys and men who may be facing various social challenges.

Friday’s roadshow was part of the organisation’s efforts to introduce its work to the broader community and highlight the importance of creating support structures for boys and men.
The event began at Mhluzi Mall, where members of the organisation, supporters and community residents gathered before embarking on a short walk to OR Tambo Park.

Participants spent a short time at the mall before walking together to the park, drawing attention to the organisation’s message and encouraging community members to learn more about the programmes offered by Lean On Me Community Empowerment.

At OR Tambo Park, attendees gathered for a brief programme where representatives of the organisation addressed the crowd and shared information about its mission, vision and the initiatives aimed at empowering men and boys within the community.

Mnisi encouraged the men in attendance to join the programme and seek the assistance they need. She explained that they have collaborated with healthcare officials and the police to ensure that proper support is available for men who participate.

The event received valuable support from Twizza, which donated water and drinks to help make it a success.

Lean On Me Community Empowerment operates from offices in Mhluzi, located behind the Mhluzi Police Station, where the organisation currently shares office space with the Pastor’s Forum.

The roadshow served as an opportunity to inform residents of Steve Tshwete about the organisation’s presence in the area and to encourage community members to become involved in initiatives aimed at building stronger and more supportive communities.
