Middelburg community invited to join Jericho Ride prayer initiative

Residents across Middelburg are being encouraged to take part in the Jericho Ride tomorrow, a large-scale prayer initiative aimed at uniting the town.

The Middelburg community is invited to take part in the Jericho Ride taking place tomorrow, where residents will gather in a show of unity to pray for the town.

Olivia Janse van Rensburg of MACS Ministries said the initiative is open to everyone, not only bikers.

“This is not just for motorcyclists, it is for everybody. It is one of the biggest prayer events for our town,” she said.

Participants will meet at Kees Taljaard Stadium at 10:00, from where they will be sent out to seven different areas across Middelburg to pray.

The initiative draws inspiration from the biblical account in which God commanded Joshua to march around a city. According to scripture, the Israelites circled the city once a day for six days and seven times on the seventh day, after which the walls collapsed.

Organisers say the Jericho Ride follows a similar principle of prayer and symbolic action, with prayers focused against violence, crime, abuse and spiritual attack in our town.

Afterwards, attendees will gather at Toe Word Ons Dors at 12:00 on the Bethal Road just outside Middelburg for a closing service, where the event will conclude. The gathering will also provide an opportunity for community members to connect and get to know one another.

Residents are encouraged to take part in what organisers hope will be a powerful and unifying moment for Middelburg.
