MEC Thomo on-site at N4 Middelburg Toll Plaza

MEC led law enforcement operation on N4 , Middelburg Toll Plaza, ahead of Easter traffic.

Law enforcement authorities descended on the Middelburg Toll Plaza today as part of a large-scale Easter holiday safety initiative on the roads. The well-organised operation is aimed at keeping travellers safe during the busy period on the N4.

Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, joined traffic officers, members of the Transport Inspectorate and police officials on-site to monitor compliance and observe vehicle inspections.

The multi-disciplinary operation focused on checking operating permits, inspecting vehicles and ensuring that public transport operators comply with the National Land Transport Act.

Traffic volumes are expected to increase significantly over the Easter weekend as thousands of motorists travel along the N4 corridor.

Speaking during the operation, MEC Thomo urged motorists and public transport operators to prioritise road safety.

“We continue to call on all public transport operators and drivers to obey traffic laws, drive responsibly, and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users,” he said. “May all N4 travellers have a happy and safe Easter!” said the MEC.

Officials inspected several vehicles during the operation while engaging with drivers and public transport operators travelling through the toll plaza. They were a sight of safety, discipline and co-operation in the midday sun.

Authorities confirmed that similar law enforcement operations will continue across Mpumalanga throughout the Easter holidays as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents on the province’s roads.

Motorists on the N4 are urged to plan and to always obey the rules of the road.
