Middelburg Magistrate’s Court denies bail

Aviwe Gumede was arrested the day after the fatal stabbing.

The Middelburg Magistrate’s Court denied bail to 22-year-old Aviwe Gumede today, who is accused of murdering Nerville Lot Mabaso (27).

The matter was postponed to next Wednesday (July 22).

Nerville was stabbed in the chest and passed away in his rented room.

Gumede was arrested on June 29 after the police discovered Nerville’s body the day before.

In Gumede’s second court appearance on July 8, the case was postponed to verify his address in the Eastern Cape.

Middelburg Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Mdluli reported that the fatal stabbing likely took place on June 28, at around 02:00.

“At approximately 19:00 that evening, police responded to a rental property along the R35 Bethal road in Vaalbank, Gamadonoro, and found a man’s body.”

Gumede remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
