According to Lerato Kgomo, allegations that potholes are being fixed and roads are being painted because President Cyril Ramaphosa is visiting the town are untrue.

“Pothole patching is happening on a daily basis across various wards. There is a maintenance plan in place where the team attends to complaints and the operational plan,” said Kgomo.

If this is true, complaints about Asalia Street, which has had 23 potholes for months from Protea Street to the low-water bridge, have not been listened to.
Ramaphosa will visit Middelburg on Tuesday for the opening of the King Nyabela District Hospital, and residents have seen a noticeable improvement in services in the last three weeks.
