Room van skole-atletiek slaags op Pilditch

HTS Middelburg en Hoërskool Nelspruit blaf saam met groot atletiekhonde

Maak vas julle sitplekgordels, hier kom vuurwerke.
Die land se beste atletiek skole pak mekaar Vrydag en Saterdag in die Pilditch Atletiek Stadion in Pretoria.
En dit gaan nie net skool teen skool wees nie.
Die “Curro Podium Grand finale”, soos die byeenkoms bekendstaan, het ’n lekker provinsiale geur.
Dit is Pretoria en die res, teen die Kaap se bestes.

HTS Middelburg en Hoërskool Nelspruit gaan Mpumalanga se naam hoog hou.
Verwag ’n titaniese stryd tussen die nommer een atletiek skool in die land, Menlopark, teen Curro Hazeldean, ook van Pretoria.
Tydens Vrydagaand se uitnodigingsbyeenkoms by Menlo het Curro Hazeldean byna skoonskip gemaak in die 800m wedlope.

Menlopark het ’n briljante vertoning gelewer in die aflosse en een na die ander rekord laat spat.
Daar moes ure en ure se oefening in die skool se aflositems ingegaan het, want die oorgeë was manjifiek.
Derde op die lys is Hoërskool Outeniqua, of die Kwaggas, van George.
Die Bolanders se Paarl Gimnasium gaan wil wys dat hy nie net op die rugbyveld ’n krag is nie.

Mnr. Johan Kruger, van HTS Middelburg, wat al jare betrokke is by atletiek, het gesê “hou ons dop”.

Tobie van den Bergh

Tobie started as a journalist in September 1975. He was appointed editor of the Middelburg Observer in 1982 where he worked until he retired in 2024. He received numerous awards, is a founding member of the Forum for Community Newspapers and has published two books about his work.
