(Not for sensitive viewers) – Help needed for mother
A child with a severe tumour on his head due to XP is being treated in the Middelburg Provincial Hospital.
According to Mrs Maryna de Beer (from the Xeroderma Pigmentosum organisation) they held a special weekend for children who has the Xeroderma Pigmentosum disease at Hartebeespoortdam.
Seven year old Mnqobi Mthembu and his mother, Sizakele, came all the way from Kwazulu Natal to attend the camp.
He was too weak to go back to KZN and was taken to the Middelburg Hospital where he had to get a blood transfusion.
After a scan was done, doctors told Mnqobi’s mother that the tumor on his head also penetrated his brain with six centimeters.
Due to his condition Mnqobi can not be transported back to KZN immediately. His mother must also stay in town to attend to her child’s needs.
Mrs De Beer said the organisation need help from the community to get a suitable place for Sizakele to stay and funds for food while she is in town.

• Xeroderma Pigmentosum, which is commonly known as XP, is an inherited condition characterized by an extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight. This condition mostly affects the eyes and areas of skin exposed to the sun. Some affected individuals also have problems involving the nervous system.
