Police appeal to help identify a man’s body

MIDRAND – Constable Eliot Mabulane, spokesperson for the Midrand Police said that the deceased was found wearing a white jacket and long trousers.


A man was found dead, hanging from a tree near the Allandale Road bridge in Glen Austin on October 21.

According to Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane the deceased was found in a field opposite the Allandale Road bridge near the hospital in Glen Austin.

He said the man was wearing a white jacket and long trousers.

“It seemed as if the body had been there for a couple of weeks. The motive behind his death is still unknown, however it is suspected to be a suicide,” Mabulane added.

“The man was found by a passerby and they informed the police right away. The pathology department arrived at the scene only to find that the body cannot be identified as the face was beyond recognition.”

Mabulane said an inquest docket had been opened and police were investigating the matter.

He concluded that if there was any family who had opened a missing persons docket, it was advised that they should visit Midrand Police Station for possible identification.
