Johannesburg to Host One of Africa’s Largest International Day of Yoga Celebrations at Randburg Cricket Club
The Consulate General of India in Johannesburg is pleased to announce that the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) will be celebrated on 20th June 2026 at the iconic Randburg Cricket Club, Johannesburg.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom and World Peace,” beautifully captures the enduring relevance of yoga in today’s world. Yoga is not merely a physical discipline; it is a holistic practice that nurtures the body, calms the mind, deepens self-awareness and promotes harmony within society.
At a time when the world faces stress, conflict, lifestyle challenges and growing mental health concerns, yoga offers a timeless pathway to balance, compassion and inner strength. The theme also reflects India’s civilisational message that individual well-being and global peace are deeply interconnected.
Over the years, International Day of Yoga celebrations in Johannesburg have grown into one of the most widely attended Yoga Day events in Africa, drawing enthusiastic participation from the Indian community, friends of India, yoga institutions, wellness practitioners, schools, civil society organisations and residents from across Gauteng.
This strong public response reflects not only the deep affection for yoga in South Africa, but also the shared commitment of India and South Africa to health, harmony, inclusivity and people-to-people friendship.
Set in one of Johannesburg’s vibrant sporting and community spaces, this year’s celebration seeks to bring together people from all walks of life in the spirit of wellness, unity and collective well-being. As a venue associated with sport, discipline and togetherness, Randburg Cricket Club provides an ideal setting to celebrate yoga not only as a physical practice, but as a holistic way of life that nurtures resilience, inner balance and social harmony.
The event will feature a large-scale yoga session led by experienced instructors and will be open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Participants will be guided through simple yoga postures, breathing practices and relaxation techniques aimed at promoting physical health, mental clarity and emotional balance.
The Consulate extends a warm invitation to members of the Indian community, friends of India, yoga institutions, wellness practitioners, civil society organisations, students, families and all residents of Johannesburg to join this meaningful celebration.
Together, let us unroll our mats at Randburg Cricket Club and celebrate yoga’s timeless message of wellness, wisdom and world peace — for ourselves, for our communities and for the world.
