A good deed for a better country
NOORDWYK - Memory Molefe of Country View Gardens commended Olebogeng Ditaunyane for his act of goodwill in Noordwyk on 28 September.
Moelefe wanted to recognise Ditaunyane’s good deed as she said it was hard to find a Good Samaritan nowadays.
Molefe’s mother tried to draw money from an ATM in Noordwyk but a technical error prevented the money from being ejected from the machine immediately. The withdrawn amount reflected in her bank account but she did not receive the money.
Ditaunyane arrived at the machine to withdraw money shortly afterwards. He said, “I noticed cash lying in the ATM cash dispenser. I could just imagine the stress of whoever had left the money there, given the timing in the month. I decided that the best option to ensure the safe return of the cash to the rightful person would be to take the money and leave my contact details with the store manager. The idea was that the person would contact the shop and then be able to contact me.”
In the meantime, Molefe went to complain at the store and the store manager phoned Ditaunyane.
“I proceeded to chat to the woman and she related the circumstances around a technical problem that resulted in a considerable delay before the money was issued, to an ultimately unattended ATM. She verified the approximate time of the incident as well as the amount of money, which was R1 000, and since this matched my information, I drove to return the money to its rightful owner,” said Ditaunyane.
Moelefe said she really appreciated what Ditaunyane did for her mother and that if everyone was as honest as he was, we would have a better country.
Ditaunyane said, “I believe we all want our children to grow up in a safe and trusting environment but this change can only happen if each of us as individuals choose to do right by the next person.”
