Pikitup picks up the pace

HALFWAY HOUSE - Solly Manganyi, a resident who complained on 2 April that his business was next to an illegal dump, said he is thankful to Pikitup.

He said the owner of the property he is conducting business from at Halfway House, fenced up the area after Pikitup cleaned it.

“Metro police came a couple of times to check that the naked hobo had been removed. Police arranged for social workers to intervene,” said Manganyi.

He added that even the potholes in front of his shop are being fixed. “Who knew that the city can respond so fast?”

Speaking about Pikitup he said they did most of the work and he is grateful.

Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said this shows that, “Police and community can work well together”.

Pikitup spokesperson Pansy Oyedele said Pikitup appreciates the word of thanks. “We are pleased that Manganyi demonstrated himself as a fine example that all citizens should work together with the municipality.”

She said Pikitup was pleased that Manganyi also pleaded for fellow citizens assist them in keeping the city clean.

Pikitup would like to commend the staff at Midrand depot for their dedication and commitment to service delivery.

Oyedele asked that residents assist the city of Joburg in reporting illegal dumping, as all role players needed to work together to ensure a cleaner city.

She stated that the only way to curb illegal dumping was to report it.

To report illegal dumping call 011 375 5555.
