Young DJ trio scores 5FM slot

MIDRAND - A trio of young men have landed a monthly residency with a radio station.

Trifusion, a DJ trio aged between 15 to 22, said they have played at many events and parties. Munashe Kugarakuripi, Warren Kasongo and Marc Young feature on the Ultimix at 6 show every fourth Tuesday of the month until March 2015.

Speaking on behalf of the trio Kugarakuripi said, “The show is a 30-minute prime time electronic music mix feature, it features local and international DJs. We had our first day on the show on 29 May. It has been exciting for us.”

He explained that the trio has been together for two years. They met while chatting on BBM. They discovered they all have a deep love for music. The youngest of the trio lives in Vorna Valley, while Kasongo and Young live in Centurion. Speaking about their journey to where they are now, Kugarakuripi said they are excited about their residency at 5FM. It has taken hard work and commitment.

He added that their education still comes first. “We are still focused on school. I am in Grade 10 at Deutsche Internationale Schule, Marc is studying visual comunication at Open Window, and Warren is studying business management at Varsity College,” he said.

Travers Solomon, the Roger Goode Show and Ultimix producer at 5FM, said Trifusion impressed the station. “We chose Trifusion for a monthly residency on the Ultimix at 6 on the Roger Goode Show because their mixes were outstanding.”

He added that the station sees Trifusion’s potential to be a big brand in South African electronic music; as young as they are, they speak to the 5FM target market.
