MIDRAND - Local food relief network, Food for Life Midrand has activities planned for the week leading up to Mandela Day.
The former president had always been a well wisher of Food for Life South Africa, the country’s largest vegetarian food relief network.
At a previous festival elsewhere in the country, Tata said, “My very best wishes to the organisers of the Food for Life Festival for Children of the Rainbow Nation. They have set an example for all South Africans of caring and community spirit which transcends all cultural barriers and allows us to look ahead to a peaceful and prosperous future for all our citizens.”
Chairperson of Food for Life Midrand, Vinesh Maharaj said if one is unable to take that time of from work on 18 July, you can still contribute your 67 minutes of goodwill on 20 July.
He is urging residents of Midrand and surrounding areas to contribute their time and effort on July 20 by spending time interacting with and feeding the recipients of the programme.
Presently, the organisation provides food relief to children at the Tumelo Home for the Mentally Handicapped and the Thuthukani Centre in Ivory Park, as well as to the New Jerusalem Children’s Home in President Park.
Food for Life Midrand will also be serving lunch to local citizens, adults and children at the Midrand Police Station on 18 July at 12pm. The team will be there to set up from 11.30am.
“Join FFL-Midrand this Sunday and make a difference by giving your time, a smile and most importantly love to children,” said Maharaj.
