Phenomenal Women in Kyalami

"We aim to inspire women to show each other compassion instead of putting each other down. We want to create a safe place where women can share advice," said Busi Ngwenya, co-founder of Phenomenal Woman United.

“The aim is to make this event an annual event.”

The event is in its second year.

The four-hour-long event, which was held at Kyalami Estate clubhouse on 30 August, brought together a wide variety of women. From the unemployed to financial managers, there was an eclectic mix, and the speakers were as diverse as the audience. Dr Uviwe Petse spoke on the importance of a healthy reproductive system for a woman. And nothing on the day was off limits, so when Petse spoke of the need for regular sexual intercourse, the women in the room chuckled and kept the questions flowing.

Kagiso Msimango’s talk was as provocative as her personality. “I want to talk about the difference between positional power and personal power. Personal power gives you the ability to make choices without consultation [while positional power is dependent on the position you hold, it is given],” she said.

Lee Anne Visagie from Allan Gray gave a thoughtful talk on investment options for women. “Wealth is a relative term, no one here should walk out thinking ‘I am not wealthy’. Your identity with money will determine how you treat money.”

The day ended with a warm lunch, cupcakes and free flowing conversation.
