Pupils shine at public speaking

GLEN AUSTIN - Glen Austin High School hosted its first Annual Inter-house Public Speaking event, and new participants for the Inter-Schools Public Speaking event were chosen.

Principal Dirk van Nierkerk said, “The school is associated to the Speech and Drama College South Africa that structures the schools inter-schools calendar for public speaking and debate.”

The inter-house teams were divided into houses known as Eagles and Elephants and split according to grades. The pupils debated topics including pollution and communication, talking of how these two have impacted lives.

A self-esteem coach Sally Throp applauded the pupils’ confidence and eloquence in public speaking.

Pupils that were chosen to represent Glen Austin at the 2015 Inter-Schools competition are Grade 8 pupils Bonolo Molope, Kimberly Pargeter, Refiloe Ntombela and Palesa Ohmile. Grade 9 pupils include Brandon Moyo, Nosipho Mhlungu, Rachel Robertson and Mark Ndlovu.
