Spraying hair for a good cause

CROWTHORNE - Vodacom employees across the country had their hair shaved or sprayed in support of this year’s annual Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) Shavathon campaign.

Their Midrand employees were no exception. The shavathon took place at the Vodacom’s head office in Crowthorne on 6 March.

Executive Head Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability at Vodacom Suraya Hamdulay said, “Vodacom has a long history of supporting the CANSA Shavathon initiative that has raised thousands of rands for CANSA.”

“We are proud to announce that we are once again supporting this inspiring campaign. Whether we have been personally affected by cancer or not, it is important to stand together,” she said.

CANSA is a community-driven and volunteer-based organisation that raises funds for people living with cancer and who need treatment, but cannot afford it.

According to the organisation, one in four South Africans is affected by cancer.

The medical treatment typically causes temporary loss of hair, and the annual shavathon’s held by corporates and schools around South Africa provide a fitting way of creating awareness of the illness. They also help raise funds that are donated to initiatives that are designed to help fight cancer.
