Taxi operators welcome delayed Market Street repairs

After a long wait for the scheduled repairs to take place at Boulders taxi rank, they have finally commenced, leaving taxi drivers pleased.

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has finally started with the scheduled repairs for the potholes on Market Street and Old Pretoria Road.

Following recent reports regarding the potholes by the Midrand Reporter, JRA has originally scheduled the repairs for the month of April, however they have not taken place until now.

The potholes at the Boulders taxi rank on Market Street and Old Pretoria Road have remained unattended for some time, posing more safety concerns for motorists, especially the taxi drivers and passengers who use the rank. Moreover, these repairs will help put drivers at ease and make their jobs of commuting people a lot better than before.

One of the taxi drivers, Zathu Ngema, who was previously spoken to about how the potholes have been affecting him as a driver, expressed how he feels now that the repairs have commenced. “I am very happy to see the potholes being repaired, because we have been waiting for too long for these repairs to happen.”

He further added that he hopes that JRA will do maintenance checks on the roads. “I just really hope that they will at least come do regular checks on the roads after they are done with the repairs, so that they can see this won’t go back to being the same again.”

The Midrand Reporter contacted JRA regarding the commencement of the repairs and clarity of the estimated completion date of the repairs, but no comment was forthcoming. We will publish any reply we receive as soon as we receive it.
