Botshabelo fills up 67 squares for Mandela Day
CARLSWALD - In honour of Mandela Day, Botshabelo, a charity that cares for orphans and runs preschool programmes, filled up 67 square metres of a parking lot with donations.
The event was hosted at Carlswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre and received baby items, stationery, groceries and second-hand clothing from community members.
Botshabelo’s funding co-ordinator, Michelle Hinrichsen said all of the donations will go to those people in need who are supported by the charity’s programmes. “Second-hand clothing is one of our top items as there is a great need for them, thank you to the community for supporting our cause,” she said.
Carlswald Super Spar and Dischem partnered with Botshabelo by selling donation packs with baby items or groceries to people who wished to donate to the charity.
Spar’s store manager Reynard Venter said the store was eager to partner with such a great initiative. “We had 100 Botshabelo packs made and managed to sell them to people donating.”
