Nashua’s Christmas buckets in Thuthukani
MIDRAND - The office automation organisation, Nashua, recently spread buckets of Christmas cheer in Ivory Park.
On 5 November, the organisation sent a truck filled with 300 buckets to Thuthukani Community Centre in the township to aid families that are reliant on the centre for assistance through the festive season.
Assistant manager of the centre, Vusi Makhubo, said they had 344 dependents whose needs varied. ”We are so happy that Nashua did this, it’ll take a lot of the worry off our shoulders for this season.”
Makhubo said the contents of the buckets included breakfast foods, tinned goods and jelly and custard, a specialty dessert in the township over Christmas. “We often take such things for granted, however, to these kids, they will mean the world. It is difficult for their families to afford the essentials and they definitely would not be able to afford dessert.”
The gift went beyond the festive season as Nashua also packed stationery for January when school starts.
Makhubo said the centre had many needs still. “As soon as the festive season is over, there is the need for school shoes and uniforms. There is also a constant need for monthly food parcels.
“A lot of the children who receive their meals here are orphans and live in child-headed households. We worry about their families.”
To add to the festivities, Nashua had a small aircraft fly over the home as the truck arrived to deliver the food and the children watched in awe.
