Rabie Ridge residents clean up their community twice a month as part of an initiative by Ward 80 Councillor Makgoba Pagadi and other stakeholders including the Rabie Ridge police, Community Policing Forum, Pikitup and community members.
Residents of Rabie Ridge and its surrounds, led by the CPF and Seventh-Day Adventist Church, continued with the City’s vision to clean and create a safe environment for the children.
“The community of Rabie Ridge and stakeholders paraded at the community hall to say ‘enough is enough’, therefore, all parks and dumping spaces should be cleaned to try and avoid having children playing in an unhealthy environment with may lead to many illnesses,” said Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson Captain Mofana Matsobane Masela.
Pagadi said he hopes more young people will get involved in the initiative so that young boys and girls can participate in the maintenance of the community as well as keep themselves busy to avoid boredom and turning to drugs. “A healthy and clean space will minimise the number of aborted foetuses which are dumped in public spaces and hidden behind the piles of rubbish,” he said.

Both Masela and Pagadi said the initiative went well and will help strengthen relationships between residents, as well as assist in improving the relationship between community members and the police, plus the local leadership.
