Clampdown on illegal liquor licences

MIDRAND – Rabie Ridge police have closed a tavern in Phomolong after the owner was operating with an illegal licence.

Rabie Ridge police closed a tavern in Phomolong on 17 May following a crime prevention operation focused on the compliance of taverns with the Gauteng Liquor Act.

The operation was a united effort between the police, Metro police, local security companies and patrollers.

Rabie Ridge police spokesperson, Captain Matsobane Masela said the owner of the tavern was found to be operating his business illegally after he presented the police with an illegal licence that is not registered with the Liquor Board.

“A large amount of alcohol was confiscated and a fine was issued to the owner for operating illegally,” said Masela.

The police have warned the community to stop selling alcohol illegally and to report to the police those selling liquor without a licence.
