Scrapyard employee shot multiple times in attempted robbery

HALFWAY HOUSE – Police are looking for the three suspects who are were driving in a sedan.

An employee of a local scrapyard was shot about five times during an attempted robbery on the corner of Aitken and De Villiers streets in Halfway House today, 10 October.

The victim was apparently driving back from their head office in Jeppestown to collect money to pay clients when he was approached by three armed suspect who tried to stop him.

“The driver didn’t stop and he was shot about five times on both arms. He managed to drive to his workplace nearby and nothing was taken from him,” said spokesperson for Midrand Police Station, Sergeant Tlamela.

He was rushed to hospital to receive medical attention.

“Police are looking for the three suspects who are were driving in a sedan. We are currently investigating a case of attempted robbery and attempted murder,” said Tlamela.

Netcare 911 paramedics also responded to the scene and the media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst, said, “Reports from the scene indicate that a male approximately 30-years-old sustained multiple gun shot wounds to both his arms and chest.”

He added, “The patient was treated on scene by a Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioner and, once stabilised, was transported in a critical condition to hospital for further assessment and care.”
