As part of its efforts to keep the streets of Midrand clean, the police arrested 10 suspects in two weeks.
This according to Midrand police spokesperson, Sergeant Matome Tlamela. A 28-year-old male was arrested for allegedly stealing 73 cell phone tower batteries on 28 November.
During his patrol on Kruger Road in President Park, an officer received a tip-off from crime intelligence of a male who allegedly burgled a cell phone tower and made away with the batteries. Upon searching the apparent getaway white vehicle, the police found the vehicle loaded with the suspected stolen property valued at about R500 000.
The suspect is currently out on bail but will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court soon.
In another incident, four suspects between the ages of 25 and 30 years old were arrested for being in possession of counterfeit money and possession of a dangerous weapon.
During a routine search in Halfway House on 28 November, an officer spotted a white vehicle parked on Scale Road, with four male occupants.
The police searched the vehicle and found R200 counterfeit notes covered with white pieces of paper cut into the size of R100 notes. Matome suspects that the paper was going to be used to print counterfeit money. The suspects are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court soon.
The Midrand police spokesperson warned that criminals will be hunted down and will face the full might of the law.
