Waiter lands up in hot water

MIDRAND – A waiter was arrested for making payments on a card forgotten by a customer.

The Midrand police arrested a waiter after a complainant found out that the suspect had made purchases on his card.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the incident occurred on 19 January when the complainant had lunch at a restaurant at a shopping centre in Midrand.

Tlamela added that upon paying his bill, the complainant forgot his card at the counter and went home. At 7.53pm, the complainant was surprised to receive SMS notifications that amounts of R429.99 and R459.99 were made at a bottle store.

He immediately went back to his vehicle to find his card and realised that he had forgotten it at the restaurant.

He went back to the restaurant where the video footage from the restaurant was reviewed and the police noticed the waiter taking his card.

The police arrested the suspect at the restaurant who will appear in court soon.
