Illegal gambling suspect arrested

VORNA VALLEY – The Midrand police arrested a suspect conducting illegal gambling in her establishment.


The Midrand police arrested a suspect in Vorna Valley for the unlawful operation of a gambling area.

The spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that the Midrand Police, under the command of Captain Lionel Chetty, and members of Gauteng Gambling Board conducted a search of an establishment on Albertyn Street on 28 February.

Tlamela said the search was done at 12.30pm when the police entered the establishment with a search warrant and introduced themselves to the manager. They searched for the venue and spoke to four patrons at different machines.

Tlamela added that patrons admitted that they were gambling on the machines.

The police questioned the manager and asked her for the establishment’s gambling licence which she was unable to produce. She was arrested and is currently detained at the Midrand Police Station awaiting a court appearance.
