A 27-year-old man allegedly murdered his sister’s friend at their Midrand apartment, thereafter attempting to dispose of the body in a rather unconventional manner.
Midrand Police Captain Mmakgomo Ronny Semono said that on the night of the event [3 May], the accused Napo Motebang requested app-based taxi services to pick him up at the complex, so he could dispose of the body far away.
With the victim’s body in a garbage bin, he attempted to use the services but two different drivers refused to transport him. In fact, the second driver had noticed that the garbage bin had a body inside it. Soon after the second driver drove away, he reported the matter to the Midrand Police Station.
The accused eventually dumped the corpse in some bushes nearby.
The following day, police arrested Motebang for murder and also found the body.
On 7 May, the accused appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court and will appear again on 30 May to make a formal bail application.
but because he had no lawyer, the case was postponed to 13 May, granting him time to find a legal representative whereafter the matter was postponed to 17 May for a bail application.
Motebang is currently in police custody and will appear on 30 May in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court to bring a formal bail application.
