Christ Church Preparatory School and College‘s top swimmers look forward to a great season.

The school brought their learners and teachers together by hosting their annual college gala on 29 January. The day was filled excitement with their top swimmers from their houses Olive, Cedar and Acacia going head-to-head to show off their spirit and swimming strength. In the end, Olive came up on top winning both the spirit trophy and the overall gala.

The victor ludorum trophy was awarded to Grade 12 learner Joshua Mckenna who won the 50m freestyle, 25m butterfly and the 200m freestyle. The victrix ludorum trophy was shared between Grade 11 learners Chante Bresler and Nikita Joyce. Chante won in 25m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 25m butterfly and 25m backstroke. Nikita won in 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle, 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 25m freestyle.

Joshua said that being awarded the trophy was a great surprise but also a testament to the hard work that he has been putting in.

Chante said, “I felt excited, as it was a personal goal. I was pleased for my house, and also relieved that my hard work and training had paid off.

“It was an honour to share the award with Nikita. She is a talented swimmer and deserved the award.”

The three are all part of the Christ Church Preparatory School and College swimming team and are looking forward to the new season, with Nikita representing the college for the first time. She said that she is nervous but also excited for the upcoming season and is looking forward to all the freestyle races.

Chante said, “Our team has grown significantly since last year so I am excited. Everyone is working hard and is committed.”

She added that her personal goal for the season was to place in all of her race while improving on her times from last year. Joshua said his goal was to ultimately get a colours award for his work in swimming.
