Thirteen people injured after taxi crash near the Allandale off-ramp

MIDRAND – Traffic was heavily congested but local authorities managed to divert traffic on the busy highway.


ER24 paramedics responded to the scene of an accident which left 13 people injured earlier this morning (25 January) on the N1 highway near the Allandale off-ramp in Midrand.

Spokesperson for ER24 Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived at the scene and found a taxi lying on its side in the middle of the highway, “Several passengers were found seated around the taxi. ”

Thirteen people had sustained minor to moderate injuries, paramedics treated the patients and transported them nearby hospitals for further care.

The accident caused heavy traffic delays from the N1 highway near the Allandale Road off-ramp. Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “Traffic was negatively impacted due to the obstruction of the vehicle, causing heavy congestion.”

Minnaar added that the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

Meiring said the local authorities began to divert traffic on the busy highway while medics tended to the patients.
