Joburg City Parks works on upgrades for Halfway Gardens parks
HALFWAY GARDENS – Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has announced that revamps will continue on two parks in Halfway Gardens.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is happy to announce that two parks in Midrand are ready to be revamped.
The two parks are the Seventh Street play park in Halfway Gardens and a brand-new park in Halfway Gardens on the corner of 5th and 6th roads. The Seventh Street park has been in development for almost a year, starting with a community petition calling for the park to be revamped last year. The park received regular grass cutting, new bins and benches along with official signage from City Parks.
However, due to extremely expensive quotes from service providers, City Parks did not instal much-needed palisade fencing around the park to give the community control over access to the park, which caused numerous problems including vandalism and noise complaints from the park.
The entity also found an issue of illegal dumping from a nearby complex that created a large mound of concrete at one end of the park.
The second park was a 200-square metre undeveloped park that the entity had been maintaining regularly but wanted to instal benches and bins for residents.

City Parks Region A manager Joseph Ndou said, “We have acquired two service providers for installation of palisade fencing – one for each park through request for quotation process. An advert was published on our website and service provider that meet all requirements were selected as per supply chain management guidelines.”
The park on 5th Road has already received benches and bins and will expect signage as well. Both parks will have palisade fencing installed with the projects expected to begin on 13 or 14 March.
Ndou added, “Our feeling as an organisation is that it will create a safe and clean open space for the community around Midrand area. Also, we are busy procuring playground equipment for kids in both parks and further plan to get an outdoor gym to promote healthy living.”
He concluded that the expected removal of the dumped rubble in the Seventh Street park will be done alongside community members and is expected to be removed before the end of March.
