Midrand Princess Project gives learners the chance to feel special

NOORDWYK – The Princess Project Midrand is calling on the community to engage and assist in their growth.

The Midrand branch of the Princess Project is expanding and is calling on the community to engage with them.

The Princess Project Midrand, a non-profit organisation headed by Ruby Kavanathy, has seen tremendous growth since it was initiated in 2016. The project’s primary aim is to provide dresses, suits, shoes and make-up to disadvantaged youth going to their matric dance.

The project forms part of a countrywide network of branches that work on a donation basis, with generous residents and business owners giving their time and money to ensure the learners have a memorable day. Kavanathy said, “The response from the community in recent years has been overwhelming and has added to our growth. Its been quite heartwarming.”

She added that the growth they have seen includes a recent addition of a storage unit they will able to use supplied by Key Moves Storage, which they are currently in the process of moving into. “Previously we were running from my home and we could only see the kids two at a time. Now, with this unit, we will be able to see many more and work faster when assisting these students. It will completely change the dynamic of our operation.”

The organisation would like to expand further and is calling on the community for assistance to their operation. Kavanathy said she would like to appeal for a laptop, printer and other general office equipment to streamline the administrative work needed for the project.

She also called on the community to assist with a laundry service for the dresses which need to be cleaned or volunteers who can assist with cleaning the dresses. “We want to grow even further. Our community have been incredibly generous so far and the engagement has been amazing.”
