Halfway Gardens park revamp halted during coronavirus lockdown
HALFWAY GARDENS – The revamp of a park in Halfway Gardens has been put on hold during the coronavirus lockdown.
The revamp of a park in Halfway Gardens on the corner of 5th and 6th roads has been halted during the coronavirus lockdown.
The 200-square-metre piece of land has been an undeveloped park that Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo have been maintaining regularly. They have also installed two benches and bins.
Region A manager for City Parks, Joseph Ndou, said that the park will have a palisade fence with a motor gate, playground equipment and three additional benches. He said that the service provider for the palisade fence had been appointed and was scheduled to start on 27 March, but this had been halted due to the coronavirus lockdown. A service provider to instal the three different sets of playground equipment and additional benches has also been appointed.
He added that they had also received permission for 10 trees to be planted, which will be planted following the lockdown.

Ndou said, “Park signage or by-law signage has been ordered and we are waiting for delivery and installation, this will be done before end of May.
“In the new financial year which will start in July this year, our intention during the first quarter will be to instal five different sets of outdoor gyms to promote healthy living, as well as paving, planting of grass and finally putting pavement on the sidewalk adjacent to park so as to create a parking lot for five vehicles.”
